Work at Home as an Auction Listing Agent Scams

From time to time this blog brings readers information related to bogus work from home jobs. Working from home is a real empowerment and a growing resource used by a number of people. Along with in increasing number of real work from home jobs comes an increase in the number of conmen promoting fraud and deceptive work from home jobs. Keep your eyes open for these scammers. This is a work from home as an auction listing agent scam alert and what to look for.

A number of people have received emails inviting them to participate in working from home as an auction listing agent. These are cheats and cons using scams to offer people a lot of money for nothing. Scores of members that sign up with these fraudulent companies are asked to pay an upfront fee in addition to ongoing monthly fees as an auction listing agent.

The web has a lot of unscrupulous people that want to take advantage of decent hard working people who want to work from home making an honest living. Check out any company’s credibility before investing time and never invest money-especially in a company you know nothing about. Nearly all legitimate companies will never ask for a money investment for home work opportunities.

Auction listing agents do actually exist. Unfortunately a majority of the queries that are found with search engines for work at home as an auction listing agent brings up scams instead of actual working resources.

A number of work from home business persons are reporting rip offs instead of actual prospects to earn money working from home. Casualties of the scam are asked to enter their zip codes to check for work in their area or simply given a huge amount of long winded info about how wonderful the money is in working from home as auction listing agents without any real business material.

The companies that deliver the spill will give workers the promise of making huge profits of up to $100 an hour or more. This sounds great, but how many work from home jobs do you really imagine can make up to $100 an hour to start out? Anything that usually sounds too good to be true, usually is.

There are no companies with listings in the Fortune 500 that are seeking auction listing agents to work from home. Targets of these companies are directed to sign up as a Certified Auction Listing Agent and sent garbage after they send in a fee. Some of the trash received in emails includes;

1.       How to set up an EBay and PayPal account

2.       Tips on using EBay

3.       Fake certification to use EBay as an auction listing agent

How to use eBay and set up PayPal is free information available in numerous places all over the web and a useless certification as auction listing agents is worth nothing. Some of the companies that members have identified as sending on bogus info include HomeJobPlacement and Jennifer Johnson.

There is plenty of excellent work from home job opportunities for real companies that will make you money. Unfortunately, there are more and more scams around the web that will rip you off and take your money. Keep your eyes open and use common sense when it comes to companies such as these.

Hey there good looking! If you're new here & looking for legit work at home, please check out my free Work At Home Guide. You may also want to subscribe to my Email list orRSS feed for updates on topics like the one on this page. And if you can't get enough me, you can also follow me on Twitter. Good luck!
Wealthy Affiliate is a site that allegedly teaches you how to become a successful internet / affiliate marketer. Yeah, yeah we've all heard that before. But unlike most of the sites that claim to do this (i.e. Google Money Tree, Check Cashing, Typing, Data Entry, etc), Wealthy Affiliate fails to make ridiculous claims about all the money you'll instantly make by purchasing their training. Too often many of the internet marketing products out there falsely claim that they have some magical lucky charm system that is going to make you hundreds of dollars seconds after buying their product. If you believe that, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.
In any event, when I first learned about Wealthy Affiliate 2 years ago, I expected to visit their website and see the typical boats, cars, half naked women and photo shopped checks of thousands of dollars. But to my pleasant surprise the website was very understated. I know from experience that internet / affiliate marketing isn't easy. So the first thing I try to identify is the BS claims that this opportunity is easy. As soon as I see that, I'm out. However WA makes their distinction very clear within the first couple of paragraphs of their website when they state the following:

If You Think That It’s an Internet Scam it likely is

Internet fraud or scams are a new twist on something that has occurred for a long time. With our current economy, internet scams that were reported to the BBB at nearly 8,000 in 2009 were only 4,000 only two years earlier according to the Better Business Bureau.

There is work at home internet scams all over the world, including here in America. Not only are there internet scams for working at home, but internet scams also involve training, certification or classes that are provided online.

One example of an internet scam that was mentioned in USA Today, involved a character that used at work at home medical billing scam. This work at home billing scam involved charging thousands of people up to $6000 for training, materials and a licensing fee to allegedly start a lucrative work at home business for medical billing. The FTC or Federal Trade Commission advised that they shut this individual down and in June 2011 he pleaded guilty in Federal Court in the state of Ohio to internet fraud and will be sentenced in August.
There is a company that is going by the name of Search Profit System and Money Mastery that has been identified by the Better Business Bureau as companies that have been scamming customers for money. The example reflected in the USA Today article (http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/employment/2010-06-29-workathome29_CV_N.htm)
Indicated one customer paid $1.95 to learn how to make money online. After paying the $1.95 a customer was charged $49.95, but she never received anything for her money. The company simply charged her debit/credit card for the fee.

Another example was a woman that has two disabled children, debilitated arthritis and a husband laid off of his welding job wanted to attempt a job she saw online for Darling Angel Pins. This particular company pays for making the company pins at home and sending them in to the company for payment. She provided up to $600 to get started with the work at home company, but never made any money.

Each time she completed her pins and returned them to the company for reimbursement, the company sited there was poor workmanship and refused to pay her, over and over again. This happens a lot with internet scams. People invest and want to receive payment and cant or never do. Not only did this woman become the victim of the scam so did her disabled mother who also invested $600. None of her pins where ever accepted by the company because of poor quality.

The sad thing is that the Angel Pin Company has been in business since 1986, defrauding and scamming people. However, after filing a complaint with FTC and a restraining order filing they will no longer being doing any additional business.

ConsumerSearch is a blog for consumers that advise there are work at home jobs that are legitimate. Many of the customer service providers and mystery shoppers are a mixed bag of legit and scam artists alike.
Numerous work at home scams have been around for the last twenty years believe it or not. However, our current economy has made them soar with the rate of unemployment and more people searching for work at home opportunities.

Many work at home scams will advise they are not work at home scams or are 100% scam free.  Before the internet was available there was envelope stuffing and these unscrupulous people have really began to target a lot of people in dire needs.

In addition to the BBB and the FTC you can also file an investigation or complaints with the federal Internet Crime Complaint Center.

If you are giving the work at home company more than you are actually making, this should be a tip off that there may be a scam taking place. If you are questioning anything about the company, make sure that you verify you are working with a legitimate business.

Busting Web Scams and Scammers Using the BBB

Work at home opportunities many times has scammers that have their eye on your personal information or something more sinister. Unfortunately, because our economy is what it is, this listing of scammers is growing. There are a lot of resources online to review sites and gain review information. Use these sites to educate yourself or receive feedback and information to protect you from these online internet scams or scammers.

There are so many people searching for a source of income and turning to work at home or online employment opportunities that the bad along with the good people are advertising services available for work at home prospects. There are several resources that you can use to gain information on websites that advertise work at home opportunities and if they are legitimate. However, one that has been around for quite some time and continues to provide legitimate information is the Better Business Bureau or the BBB.

The Better Business Bureau is Being Used for Work At Home Scams

The Better Business Bureau is sending a warning out to beware of Work from Home Job Scams that are being listed on the popular Craigslist website. With the unemployment rate hovering close to double digits in most communities, scammers are getting more and more creative with the knowledge that the unemployed are getting desperate in their need for a steady income. They have taken their scamming to new heights and have set up ads that indicate the Better Business Bureau is hiring.

A bogus data entry job opportunity with the BBB was posted in an upper New York Craigslist post. The Better Business Bureau is advising the goal for many of these scammers is to obtain personal information from would be applicants to use for fraud through identity theft.

An applicant contacted the BBB after she applied for one of these data entry positions and was told she had been selected for an interview. She received her notice via email. The email went on to say that employees would be paid through direct deposit and their banking account information was needed. She could sign up for their “preferred banking” opportunity. This caused her to stop and evaluate the situation because of all of the persona information that was being asked in the email. It’s very tempting for those job seekers that have been unemployed for countless weeks and months to fall for this scam which is very unfortunate.

The BBB advises that while many job seekers use social networking sites and online postings for job seeking to be aware of warning signs that indicate that a job isn’t what it appears to be and don’t fall victim to work at home scammers. If there are any questions, warning signs or red flags that cause you to wonder if these are legitimate work at home employment opportunities, don’t become prey to these vultures.

These are steps that the BBB advises you to follow;

·         Never pay for any fees upfront for a job
·         Protect your personal information
·         Be careful of an offer that sound “to good to be true”
·         Guard your resume
·         Exercise caution
·         Report any fraud to the proper authorities
You can report fraud to the BBB, including internet fraud, at 1-800-251-3221 or online at http://www.ic3.gov.

Work At Home - Avoid Becoming The Victim

Let's face it ... Financial obligations can be tough, and many moms want the opportunity to work at home yet still earn money. Because of this, moms have become a big target for work-at-home scams. It has been estimated that $40 billion a year is lost to scams in the United States alone and 6 million people answer classified ads each year regarding money scams. These ads practically jump off the page, grabbing at our fantasies and checkbooks. They all sound too good to be true, and they are.

Beware. There are hundreds of scams out there that are easy to fall victim to. Most work at home scams use similar advertising tactics to get your attention. Familiarizing yourself with the different tactics out there will help you to determine a scam, even if they are not obvious. The accessibility of the internet has helped the number of scams out there more than double over the last several years serving as a breeding ground for get-rich-quick schemes. While real work at home opportunities are abundant and continue to become more available, keep in mind that for every real work at home job, there are hundreds of scams. Real work at home business opportunities will NOT advertise the following red flags:

Fees or purchase prior to the understanding of what you are actually purchasing
Easy" or Little work required"
900 numbers
No experience necessary"
Earn $300 $800 a week and more!!!"

Do your Research. Researching all opportunities before investing your money will save time and money in the long run. Don't be afraid to ask questions, a real work at home opportunity will encourage your questions as an opportunity for you to learn more about their company. As a rule of thumb, (1) never pay for anything without completely understanding what it is you're paying for, (2) don't make rushed or hurried decisions, think things through completely sleep on it if you have to, and (3) always check out the company's background/history. A common misconception is that there is easy money to be made with little or no work required. Anyone who has started a home business knows that working from home requires one to put more time and effort into their business than one would working for an employer. So don't be taken by the scams that focus on how easy it is to make money. (link)Work-at-home-magazine.com works hard to research opportunities as they present themselves and make note of our findings to share on the message boards. Other research tools available on the internet to research or report scams are:

The Better Business Bureau - http://www.bbbonline.org/
The FTC's Consumer Response Center - http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/consumer.htm
Consumer Sentinel - http://www.consumer.gov/sentinel/
Scambusters Newsletter - http://www.scambusters.org/
National Fraud Information Center - Fraud.org

To have your own business and work from home you need an idea and the will power and endurance to see it through. Find an online community seeking common goals to be your support group and guide you through your journey. But don't fear if you're not one of those idea people. There are many real work at home business opportunities available to almost anyone who is willing to work hard. Check out the Direct Sales Center or Work at Home Jobs at Work-at-home-magazine.com where you will find all types of telecommuting or work at home opportunities.

Along with the advice given above, use your best judgment when making all your business decisions.
